Tom – 23rd July 2023 – Written & Read by Tom’s mum
We are here today to say farewell to Tom but also to remember him as he was.
Tom was a much-loved son, brother to D & K, father to M-V & uncle to M,Q & E.
He valued all these relationships for the love & support they gave him.
Everyone of us will have our own very personal memories of Tom which will now become even more precious.
There are also the memories of things that we all know & share.
We will all remember his mischievous smile & infectious laugh always accompanied by that twinkle in his eye.
His passion for animals especially his cats.
His love of the outdoors & nature.
His talent for art, his skill at fishing & lots of other things.
Tom wasn’t perfect.
He could be incredibly stubborn & unreasonable.
His language was often – shall we say colourful.
But all these things made Tom the person he was.
So Tom before we let you go, where ever you are , know that you will be loved, missed but never ever forgotten.
Afterglow by Helen Lowrie Marshall 1958 – Read by Tom’s mum
I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles when day is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories I leave
Behind – when day is done.
